Young talent on right wing
Valencia is in contention for starts on the right flank of Ecuador's midfield ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Analysis: Valencia enters the World Cup as one of Ecuador's most promising young attackers, bringing pace, energy and a relentless work rate to the right wing. While he's not guaranteed a starting spot, he should remain firmly in contention for minutes with Gonzalo Plata and John Yeboah. The Royal Antwerp man is able to press aggressively and track back defensively, skills that fit well with Ecuador's high-intensity approach. He may also contribute on set-piece situations, occasionally taking corners or free kicks when given the opportunity. Even if he begins the tournament in a rotational role, his athleticism and direct style could make him an effective threat. He racked up three goals and two assists across his last 14 club games, and he found the net in one of his last two international starts.
