Key midfield presence for Paraguay
Cubas is expected to start in central midfield for Paraguay in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Analysis: Cubas might not be as flashy as other midfielders, such as Miguel Almiron and Julio Enciso (thigh), but he has an important tactical role in Gustavo Alfaro's scheme. Cubas is the one who should slot in midfield right between the playmakers and the defensive line in an effort to control the tempo. That said, as a defensive-minded player who rarely gets forward, his fantasy appeal shouldn't be very high.
Suspension served, heading to WC
Cubas has served his suspension in the MLS and will play the World Cup with Paraguay before being back available for the Whitecaps.
Analysis: Cubas had been forced to sit out the San Diego fixture after accumulating five yellow cards, bringing his MLS run to a temporary halt. The Paraguayan midfielder will now shift his focus entirely to the World Cup this summer, where he is expected to feature for Paraguay in what promises to be a highly competitive Group D alongside the United States, Turkey and Australia. He will return to Vancouver's lineup once MLS resumes after the tournament.
